A Challenge and Privilege

My friend Heather sent me a box a few week ago and has asked me to put her old family albums into a scrapbook. The box arrived and all I can say is that I have never seen such organization in these albums.  Many of the photos have names written on them, as well as the year. These albums are really a beautiful testimony to this family, but sad to say that the actual albums are falling apart. It is now my privilege to put them in a new one (or two or three).

Check out the amazing organization!

Check out the amazing organization!

Today was the day  to get started. I am inspired! I am literally taking the photos by year and transposing them. These photos range in size from 2×3 all the way up to 4×6 so far.  The photos begin about 1939, I am currently just completely 1942 so I have a few more years to go. It is a challenge when you are scrapbooking for someone else, guessing the style they might like, hoping they are happy, also not really knowing the stories behind the photos. It is interestng to see little things written on the back of the pictures though, and the story can start to come alive. As you continue on,  seeing the children growing in the pictures, the happy faces on their wedding day , the people start to live. This project is truly a privilege. So today is the beginning, I look forward to the journey and I hope you follow me as I continue this adventure.

Scrapbook and Cards Today – page maps challenge

So while on my Facebook today, I noticed there was a page map challenge on the Scrapbook and Cards today site. I’m not sure if any of you are familiar with the company or how page maps work but I decided I would give it a try. Scrapbook and Cards Today is an awesome resource for keeping scrapbooked up to date with new trends in our craft and they offer a free downloadable magazine that is fabulous to sit and browse through. Page maps are a design that helps to inspire you to try new layouts either for cards or pages. Becky Fleck has awesome sketches that can help get those creative juices flowing. Here is the sketch

So my take is using all Close to My Heart products from the new catalogue. I love this Buzz and Bumble paper line and stamp set. I added a bit of bling just to make it more fun. Hope you like it.

Barber Family

Ok now I am really getting into the scrapbooking mode, but it is time to do some pages. I decided to look at some of my family history photos and there is one of the entire Barber Family that was taken in 1942. My grandma was born and raised in Kensington and when her twin sister married, they had a picture taken of the entire family at the time. The picture was taken in Kensington, London and you can see the evidence of this being during the middle of the war. There are a few men in uniform and the signs asking for donations to help black out the church.

I know there are a few of us in the younger generations that know only bits and pieces of the family history, and even fewer that have actually seen some of the pictures, but our family fortunately has amazing history that has been preserved through photos and 8mm film.

This picture is very special as my great grandparents are in this photo. John Barber was born in approximately 1878 and my great grandmother, Louisa Ellis, who was born in about 1880. There are very few clear photos of them, but this happens to be quite a good one.
