Well this was a very busy weekend. My mom and I came to the Okanagan to help my Uncle John with his house. He moved in about 2 months ago and he painted and hung new lights. Did lots of work. Here’s the thing though, he has decided to rent out an area to a student.   He blocked off his kitchen and built a small bachelor studio.  It is going to work great! There was one problem-the area that was blocked off there are awesome french doors, behind them now is drywall.  So we decided to put up this amazing wallpaper. We had access to plastic signage board (which we sanded) added the wallpaper then attached it to the back of the windows.  The door had brass mullions and door knob so I then painted those silver leaf so they matched the rest of the kitchen.  Pretty proud of how it turned out.  Let me know what you think.

Party favors

So my cousin Ashley is throwing a party for a close friend that is getting married and tonight we tested out my new Cricut Artiste cartridge from Close to My Heart.

All I can say was ….FUN!! There are so many amazing 3D items you can make it is amazing. I really need to spend some time playing with this.

Close to My Heart Class

So my first Close to My Heart class is coming up this weekend and my cousin Jessica is hosting it for me. I am so excited to teach it and I hope those that come will learn at least one new thing.
My challenge comes as my supplies have not arrived and I am working from my kit. At least I have a few supplies from before to help me along. It has helped me to stretch my imagination to make it an interesting page and also teach second and third generation stamping.
This is really beautiful paper I used called Avonlea, from Close to My Heart, I think it is one of my all time favorites. I love how it all coordinates, which makes it easy to create a layout.

I hope you like it.

I also decided to do a card class to give the option of something smaller , besides, everyone can use a card.

Let me know if you would like to book a party, or maybe even a one-on-one class. We can try new techniques together, or use it as an opportunity to see what is so great about the product.

Barber Family

Ok now I am really getting into the scrapbooking mode, but it is time to do some pages. I decided to look at some of my family history photos and there is one of the entire Barber Family that was taken in 1942. My grandma was born and raised in Kensington and when her twin sister married, they had a picture taken of the entire family at the time. The picture was taken in Kensington, London and you can see the evidence of this being during the middle of the war. There are a few men in uniform and the signs asking for donations to help black out the church.

I know there are a few of us in the younger generations that know only bits and pieces of the family history, and even fewer that have actually seen some of the pictures, but our family fortunately has amazing history that has been preserved through photos and 8mm film.

This picture is very special as my great grandparents are in this photo. John Barber was born in approximately 1878 and my great grandmother, Louisa Ellis, who was born in about 1880. There are very few clear photos of them, but this happens to be quite a good one.

Special Vacation

So this morning while I was out, a friend asked me if I would make a card for her grand daughter that is going on a very special vacation across the country with some friends. To tell you the truth, any cards I have made I have given to my mom to give away or given them away myself. I have never made a card by special request. I have also never made a vacation card before. Cards are not my specialty and I always find it a challenge to make them, but I have to say this was fun.

I searched through my papers and I seem to have more vintage travel papers, and of course quite a few papers specifically for the UK. I had to do some digging though my stack. I ended up making two, as I think the first one is not “girly” enough. I have to say I think my second one will be perfect.
Let me know what you think.

Recipe Box

So about a year ago I bought a paper pack and blank recipe box to embellish from CLOSE TO MY HEART and today I finally decided it was time to make it. This was a fun project and it was easier than I thought. I had been putting it off because I thought it was going to be complicated, but it was surprisingly simple. Let me know if you are interest in making one too.
